Giant anglerfish (Antennarius commersoni), often known as a frogfish, from Thailand’s Richelieu Rock and Burma’s Western Rocky Island.
This frogfish footage is included in my DVD « Reef Life of the Andaman » at http://www.bubblevision.com/underwater-videos/reef-life-Andaman.htm
The music is « Starbeam » from http://www.soilsound.com
I was diving with http://www.SantanaPhuket.com
Here is the full transcript of the commentary:
« …So too does the giant anglerfish, which at first sight resembles a sponge.
It actually walks around the reef using its fins which have evolved into legs.
The skin coloration is adjusted to suit the surroundings.
Anglerfishes have a very cunning strategy for finding food. Their slender dorsal spine, the illicium, is waved around like a tiny fishing rod. Tasty bypassers attracted to the lure at the end of the illicium are engulfed by the huge mouth in a fraction of a second. The anglerfish sometimes uses the same movement as a threat display when they have been detected. »
