You’re here at Surfline’s Trick Tips. We’re going to teach you about the carve to snap today. For a front side carve, speeds the main key. If you don’t have speed then you can’t go through a carve. You’re gonna need to take a couple pumps in before you’re gonna set your rail. The shorter carve, it’s going to turn more into a snap. When you’re going through a shorter carve you kind of lose a little bit of rail and you’re going to start sliding, just depends on what kind of waves are at the time. Longer bottom turns, you could draw out the rail little bit longer. You can’t let your arms run you through a little more.

Yeah as far as going grab rail into a cutty or a big hack, it’s a little bit different. The variation starts off a little bit later. Your kind of holdin on, the grab rail you tend to go a little more front foot at the beginning. Then you would at the end. If you use your arms the guide you, it tends to kind of keep your speed and it keeps the momentum going for the next turn. Pushing the tail through the water probably towards the last three quarters of the turn will really help you loosen up because you’re pretty much on your front foot when you come out of turn. If you open up your body towards that last bit your tail will come around and then leaving your body closed, you will actually come out of it without sliding your tail.

Small days will actually help you perfect this maneuver because if you could surf a small wave you can most likely surf a pretty good wave.
