Maar nu dreigt er gevaar want een van de vijf, Concuela, is in opstand gekomen. Zij wil onze planeet voorgoed in het duister zetten met behulp van een zwarte komeet. De resterende vier Sterrenheksen hebben dringend een vervangster nodig om hun cirkel weer compleet te maken en het onheil af te wenden. Ze activeren een magische amulet, in de hoop dat ze een geschikte kandidaat op het spoor kunnen komen. De amulet komt uiteindelijk terecht bij Katie, die hem van haar beste vriend Roy cadeau krijgt op haar dertiende verjaardag. Katie beschikt al van jongs af aan over magische krachten, en het blijkt dat die door de amulet enorm worden versterkt. Wat Katie en Roy echter niet weten, is dat er intussen driftig naar Katie wordt gezocht. Niet alleen door Grimbeck, de geheimzinnige afgezant van de Sterrenheksen, maar ook door Concuela.
